Cilantro-Key Lime Chicken Paired with Dry White Wine

The idea behind this dish started when I was infusing olive oil with cilantro to create dipping oil for bread. After I infused the oil, I was about to throw away the wilted cilantro when the idea for using it to flavor chicken struck me. As a result, we have cilantro themed dinners from time to time.

My wine cellar started out as a case box on its side in the bottom of my closet. Then it was two cases. Over a few months, it grew to three cases. My shoes and my clothes started getting in the way. I added my fourth box.

You pull into the winery and eagerly stride into the tasting room. The server talks you though their wines they are pouring. Usually they are happy to pour a second, or third, taste of the wine(s) you liked. Then it is time to get down to business. You can order a mixed case to take with you or ship home.

RSVP for Wine Lovers Christmas - VinVillage Sacramento

Description: Show your Christmas spirit by bringing your favorite wine for a White Elephant wine exchange. If you've any doubts or are a novice feel free to join the Sacramento chapter of Vin Village for some great recommendations from the Sommelier who will gladly help you pick a nice rounded wine that should please most. Also look at the polls and Message Boards to get an idea what others generally think. Post your own question and I know the spirit of this group will gladly help! A good price point as a standard for this event might be best at $15 or better.

So that wine is for you to take home or open it at your discretion, but what about our party? Not to worry! To go with the Turkey we will prepare we're asking that you bring your favorite accompaniment such as stuffing, salad, bread, veggie dish, dessert, etc. The kitchen is available if needed. Wine will be paired with the Turkey dinner as a flight of 6 (2-whites & 4-reds) plus maybe a surprise from the depths of my cellar;-) The total cost for this soirée will only be $12.50 to cover expenses and we are using PayPal.

Where will this Christmas party reside? Our gracious host is Erin and we will enjoy her brand new home up in Plumas Lake south of Marysville just off Hwy 70 near the Sleep Train Amphitheater. It's a straight & easy shot north as we've been there before and she drives it every day. Final directions will be given to all "Yes" RSVP's by December 21st. All RSVP's must be accounted for by the 19th so we know what size Turkey to purchase and we can defrost it by the day of this event. Erin says to feel free to bring your sleeping bags and stay the night if you get a little too tipsy, she's got brand new plush carpeting and several rooms. Sorry, but Carolyn & I get the sofa bed;-)

Description:

We'll have more specifics on this latter next week but the premise is a very nice evening in this classy joint immediately off Hwy. 80 in Rocklin (you can see it while exiting Rocklin Rd. exit). We will do a generous flight of wines with great Hors d'oeuvres for $5 - $12 at most.
I've had Easter dinner there and appetizers with wine and both were excellent with good friendly service. We're not sure if we'll put a limit on this yet so those interested better RSVP now.

The annual "dilemma" is upon us. What wine to serve with the Thanksgiving dinner? There are several varietals that we know will go well with the turkey, but what about the sweet potatoes? The creamed spinach? The pumpkin pie? Is there a wine that goes well with the whole meal?

With the national day of Thanks less than a week away from the tasting to come, I thought we would dedicate it to all those poor defenseless turkeys: choose a typical Thanksgiving side dish (or an appetizer configuration of side dish----creamed spinach in phyllo purses?)----and choose a wine to accompany it. This will require no more research than typing in "wines to pair with _______" in your browser, so please, don?t be intimidated, have fun with it! This will be an unpretentious, delicious and hopefully educational evening. The hostess (that's me) will provide the turkey and stuffing.

This event will be limited to the first 20 RSVPs @ the http://wine.meetup.com/213 site and guests (1 bottle per RSVP). When responding, please indicate your culinary contribution (but not what wine you'll be bringing), so we can limit duplications.

Note: Please keep in mind that an RSVP is a social commitment. If you've rsvp'd yes, and cannot make the event, please be courteous and change your response, so others can attend. If you?re not sure, then say maybe? We?ll cinch up the attendees a couple of days prior. The same time you?ll get the address.

Limo to the Sierra Foothills Best Wines

At 10:00 AM we'll take off from the Century Theater Parking lot at Hwy 80 and Greenback/Garfield. Meet next to the theater sign across Garfield from Starbucks. Our first winery will be Baumbach Wines in Old Town Auburn, then we'll head across Hwy. 80 to Mt. Vernon also in Auburn where they have a very friendly staff and 11 wines, including a Pinot that I like alot.

Next stop we'll go to the end of the line and work our way back from Fawn Ridge Winery to our fourth and possibly most important stop, Viña Castellano Winery ("Viña" is the Spanish word for vineyard and Castile is the region in Spain, "Castellano" is what you would call a man from that region). They have great Spanish style wines and will be our FOOD stop. You will need to vote on which price point we will commit to food wise. All tastings are complimentary through Teena Wilkins the wineries manager. Click the links to find out specifics and vote on $5, $10, $15, $20 range. Teena will have a table set up for our group to enjoy these delectable and mostly finger foods created by her sister and brother-in-law who own a French restaurant in the area. Depending on the level of crowds Teena might also give us a private barrel tasting in the cellar.

After we're fat and sassy, we can mosey on down to Ophir Winery where they'll have a "road stop" style of stand out between the vineyard and lake. If we can make a 6th and 7th winery on our way back, they will be Pescatore Winery and Secret Ravine.

The Limo will be $50/person plus gratuity plus the cost for lunch at Viña Castellano Winery will be up to each individual to pay per what is voted on. You'll most likely want to purchase wines from the wineries we visit so, consider extra for that. I've turned off the ability for "Maybe" RSVP's due to it requiring payment by PayPal or by contacting me and working out a payment. I expect this to sell out fast so you might just want to settle on PayPal! Please include an additional $5 for PayPal as they charge me a surcharge.

At around 5 - 6 PM we will head back towards the cars where we can within a block get some good Tie Food and/or see a movie afterwards, or just drop whoever needs to go off.

Why does the waiter give you the cork? He may not even know, yet through his training he sets the cork aside the bottle after giving the person who ordered the bottle a taste to be sure the wine hasn't been "corked" (by smelling and tasting). Is it because it has an elegant customary tradition?
